What's the difference between Slam / Dead Balls vs Wall Balls vs Medicine Balls?
Slam Balls are also referred to as "Dead Balls", are designed for lifting & slamming to the ground. Examples of workouts for the slam balls include holding the ball to your chest to perform a weighted squat or squatting down to pick up the ball, lifting it overhead, then slamming it to the ground with force & power.
Wall Balls are designed to be thrown to a target on the wall. They are larger in size compared to slam balls & medicine balls. Commonly used in CrossFit® workouts, wall balls build explosive power & improve aerobic capacity. The movement for wall balls involves squatting down while holding the ball close to and in front of your face, then standing up & extending the arms to throw & launch the ball up & towards the target on the wall. These can also be used for shoulder carry, wall ball sit-ups and side throws, among others. Please note that Wall Balls are NOT designed for slamming to the ground.
Medicine Balls are used in general exercises. They have a look & feel that is almost similar to basketball. Examples of Medicine Ball exercises are sit-ups, Russian twists, bent-over rows, partner throws, squat jumps, medicine ball push up for balance, among others.
